Two Walks (in one Portugal) 1,000 miles apart!

Discover Portugal - the Algarve and the Azores

Imagine two unforgettable walking adventures in Portugal – each offering its own rhythm, scenery, and spirit.

Explore the sun-drenched cliffs and bays of the Algarve Coast, where golden beaches meet dramatic sea views. Or journey to the lush, volcanic landscapes of the Azores, a remote island paradise adrift in the Atlantic Ocean.

Two very different experiences, one remarkable country.

The Azores – Europe’s hidden Atlantic paradise

Set at the heart of the mighty Atlantic Ocean, the Azores are nine lush Portuguese islands celebrated for their volcanic landscapes, pristine beauty, and sustainable way of life.

Just a four to five hour flight from the US East Coast (under three hours from Lisbon), these emerald isles feel like a world apart.

Not for nothing are they often dubbed the “Hawaii of Europe”. For their soaring cliffs, crater lakes, and hot springs, and the timeless charm of Old-World Europe.

Our base, São Miguel, is the largest and most diverse of the islands. Wander through misty forests, along hydrangea-lined trails, and past steaming fumaroles that hint at the islands’ fiery origins.

Discover one of Europe’s few tea plantations. Explore glasshouse pineapple farms. Set sail for an unforgettable ocean encounter with dolphins and whales.

Soak in natural thermal pools, savor freshly caught seafood and locally grown produce, and experience the warmth of Azorean hospitality. With cobbled streets, historic churches, and lively markets, the capital Ponta Delgada perfectly blends culture and comfort.

Though far from the mainland, the Azores are unmistakably Portuguese. Rich in traditions, flavors, and a quiet pride that infuses every village and vista.

The Algarve – Coastline with a capital C!

Fond of sand dunes, sea breezes, and golden light? This Walk brings us you to one of the Portugal’s most spectacular corners – the wild, western Algarve and its timeless hinterland.

Far from the bustling resorts, this is old Portugal at its most authentic: whitewashed villages, cobbled lanes, and a pace of life that drifts with the tides.

Here, stunning seascapes, rolling hills, and rich history blend effortlessly. We’ll explore colorful fishing towns where boats bob in sunlit harbors, savor the region’s famous cuisine, and spot vibrant birdlife along coastal wetlands.

Inland, our journey takes us up to Mount Foia, the Algarve’s highest peak, for a scenic picnic surrounded by panoramic views that stretch from mountains to sea.

The ocean is never far away. The dramatic Seven Hanging Valleys Trail reveals a coastline carved by millennia of wind and waves. Arches, sea caves, and hidden coves at every turn. At Ponta da Piedade, golden cliffs rise above turquoise waters in one of Europe’s most striking coastal scenes.

And for a moment that lingers forever, we’ll stand atop the cliffs of Cape St. Vincent, once firmly believed to be “the edge of the world” where the Atlantic crashes against ancient stone and history meets horizon.

Meals here are pure Portuguese pleasure: freshly grilled sardines, cataplana stew bubbling with seafood and spice, washed down with a crisp white or velvety red local wine, And of course, a warm pastel de nata with coffee to finish!
