Two wonderful Walks in Sicily – a different Italy!

The Best of Sicily - east and west

In Sicily, you’re definitely in Italy – just a different Italy; where the colors are brighter, the stories older, and every path leads somewhere unexpected.

Sicily rewards walkers with a rhythm all its own; ancient, sun-drenched, and irresistibly alive.

This is the Mediterranean’s largest island and so it’s only right that we have TWO unforgettable Walks here.

In Eastern Sicily trails sweep from the dramatic slopes of Etna to the baroque brilliance of hilltop towns, where lemon groves scent the air and the sea glitters below.

And Western Sicily? Footpaths weave through wild coastlines, salt pans shimmering at sunset, and landscapes shaped by centuries of Greek, Arab, and Norman influence.

East, west, which one is best? No need to choose, these journeys fit seamlessly together, back-to-back! (And booking the two together means there’s a great deal to be had!)

Eastern Sicily – Easter festivities and a feast for the eyes

How wonderful! Our spring 2026 Walk arrives in Ragusa on Easter Sunday.

Easter – Pasqua – in Sicily is like stepping into a living tapestry of faith, tradition, and celebration. The streets come alive with processions of locals in traditional dress, carrying ornate statues and icons through the Baroque alleys, while church bells ring joyfully overhead. The scent of freshly baked sweet pastries mingles with the spring air, and markets brim with seasonal treats. Look out for the rainbow-colored fruit and lamb-shaped marzipan (martorana), a Sicilian specialty!

And our Walk is a feast in more ways than one. It’s a feast for the eyes too.

Here, Greek theatres, Roman roads, Moorish echoes, and Christian artistry come alive, not as history lessons, but as part of the landscape.

We’ll stroll beneath the watchful silhouette of Mount Etna, the island’s vast, and slightly unpredictable giant. Trails wind through vineyards, fragrant olive groves, and sunlit citrus orchards, each turn offering a new perspective on Sicily’s astonishing contrasts. Wild coastal wetlands sit alongside time-worn ruins and elegant baroque towns.

Wander amid the Greek temples and Bronze Age relics of Ragusa and Pantalica, where the past feels startlingly present. Explore Siracusa, once a mighty Greek stronghold, and trace the footsteps of ancient thinkers and merchants.

We can lose ourselves in the atmospheric lanes of Taormina, then follow the golden glow of Noto’s baroque façades to an artisan bakery where a cream-filled cannolo is impossible to resist.

A pause at the Vendicari Nature Reserve invites deep calm: salt flats shimmering in the sun, migratory birds drifting overhead, the sea whispering along pristine shores.

Western Sicily – a rich mix of cultures and flavors

In Western Sicily each step draws you deeper into the island’s rich Mediterranean heritage, exploring landscapes shaped by myth, history, and the sea, that for centuries brought merchants and conquerors to its shores.

From the moment we approach the Doric temple of Segesta rising boldly against the sky, the past surrounds us. Among the Greek ruins of Selinunte, weathered stones whisper stories of long-gone empires under the warm Sicilian light.

Our trails wind through the Lo Zingaro and Monte Cofano reserves, where cliffs plunge toward turquoise water and fields of wildflowers rustle with butterflies and coastal breezes.

At the Trapani salt pans, graceful windmills turn slowly above glimmering lagoons – an ancient industry still etched into the landscape. Following the old Phoenician sea routes, we’ll take a boat to Mozia, a tiny island brimming with archaeological finds and serene island charm.

And of course, Sicily’s flavors await. No journey in the west of the island is complete without sampling its celebrated wines, so we’ll stop at the Florio cellars in Marsala to taste the region’s deep, sweet, amber-hued specialty, paired with the aromas of local cuisine.

Picture crispy arancini, golden spheres of rice stuffed with savory fillings. Pasta alla Norma, mingles al dente noodles with rich tomato, fried eggplant, and creamy ricotta. Or fresh seafood piled on our plate, caught that morning from the turquoise Mediterranean.
