Our Walk begins in the picturesque village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a historic treasure perched above the Mediterranean. Known for its thriving artists’ community, it has attracted creative minds for centuries, from Chagall to Matisse.
We head to the world-famous town of Cannes, where the echoes of the annual film festival hum along the palm-lined Boulevard de la Croisette. Yes, this is heart of the Riviera’s legendary luxury – think designer boutiques, upscale cafés, and gleaming yachts.
Yet, just a short boat ride away, lies Saint-Honorat Island, an oasis of tranquillity amid the opulence. Home to a peaceful abbey and lush vineyards, this island offers a glimpse into the spiritual side of the Riviera, where silence and solitude reign.
As we sail back to the mainland, the Mediterranean’s azure waters shimmer, guiding us to Cagnes-sur-Mer. This coastal town was once a favorite of Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Enjoy its laid-back charm as we capture the essence of the sea, sky, and sun in this artistic paradise.
Our journey continues as we tackle the aptly named “Paradise Path”. This scenic hike leads to the cliffside village of Gourdon, perched high above the surrounding valleys. The views stretch out over the Mediterranean and into the rugged Provencal countryside—an intoxicating blend of sea and mountains.
No visit to the French Riviera would be complete without stopping in Grasse, the world’s perfume capital. Nestled in the hills, Grasse is a fragrant wonderland where the air is filled with the scent of roses, jasmine, and lavender. Here, we immerse ourselves in the art of perfume-making. We attend a hands-on workshop where we can create our own personalized fragrance.
As the day winds down, we dine at La Colombe d’Or. This famous restaurant is adorned with original works by Picasso and other masters. With fine food, artistic surroundings, and an atmosphere steeped in history, this evening is a true highlight of our journey.
Onward to Antibes, a scenic peninsula renowned for its Mediterranean beauty and history, with hidden coves and walking trails that reveal the quieter, more intimate side of the Riviera. We climb the spiral stairway of the mighty Garoupe lighthouse, where panoramic views sweep across the sea and coastline.
Our adventure then leads to Nice, the vibrant heart of the French Riviera. With its lively markets, colorful old town, and striking Promenade des Anglais,. We explore its narrow streets, lined with pastel-colored buildings, local shops, and bustling squares.
In stark contrast to the energy of Nice is our next stop: the medieval village of Èze. Known for its dizzying views and maze-like streets, Èze feels like a place suspended in time. Here, we visit the exotic garden that crowns the village and gaze out at the seemingly endless horizon.
Cap Ferrat is a luxurious peninsula dotted with opulent villas and gardens. Known as a playground for the world’s elite, it’s a place where the simple act of strolling along the coastline feels like a grand indulgence, as does our visit to the Rothschild villa and its sumptuous gardens.
Then, the perfect finale! Just before France becomes Italy, we reach Menton, a jaunty, colorful town with lemon-scented air, pastel buildings, and a picturesque harbor.
In Antibes… why not have a drink at Hotel Belles Rives in Juan-les-Pins, a preserved venue where F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote Tender is the Night, set on the Riviera in the Jazz Age.
