An island-hopper’s dream

Sardinia and Corsica

What is it about islands? The nearness of the sea; the “voyage” to get there; that sense of other-worldliness?

Island hopping is a joy and our Walk on Sardinia and Corsica offers a unique twist on the style and flavor of both Italy and France.

We have just one departure this year, in June – the perfect month – for this very special Walk, so be sure to reserve your places soon.

Often chic and always gorgeous, Sardinia feels far away from mainstream Mediterranean Italy, with a unique feel and sense of the past. Just seven or so miles away, Corsica is smaller, wilder, and, thanks to a blip in history a couple of hundred years ago, it’s part of France!

In Sardinia we discover the ideal destination for walkers, nature and history-lovers as stunning landscapes unfold, apparently untouched by time.
The trail leads to water springs and limestone caverns hide prehistoric settlements, for this island is scattered with thousands of nuraghi Bronze Age towers and settlements, ‘giant’s grave’ tombs and ‘fairy house’ tombs.

By contrast, the Costa Smeralda, with its clear waters and fine sand beach is deservedly one of the most celebrated coastlines in the Mediterranean. Yes, the sand really is that white and the sea is truly turquoise.

Another hop and we explore nearby La Maddalena archipelago. It seems a world away, with tiny granite islands surrounded by translucent waters lapping at deserted beaches.

Then, with a stop on the way for a swim at a quiet cove, a private boat carries us to Corsica, that “French island basking in the Italian sun.”

We explore magnificent, lively Bonifacio. Located at Corsica’s southernmost tip, this is a bustling harbour town with an impressive citadel and a tangle of medieval lanes to stroll.

We’ll walk the southern coastline of the island, with its white cliffs, bays, and Mediterranean flora, walking as far as the cape to turn and absorb the fabulous views of Bonifacio.

Experience… the Hotel Maquis Citadelle in Bonifacio

Prepare to be seduced by the wonderful views over the Old Town offered by our wonderful hotel in Corsica.

Cool, contemporary suites, each boasting a terrace with panoramic views, sit quietly amid the heady fragrance of the sage-green maquis surroundings.

The bright and airy restaurant offers a refined menu of Franco-Italian delicacies and be ready for the breakfast buffet – a vast array of local cheeses, meats and house-made pastries, cakes and preserves.

Enjoy the facilities at the fitness center and imagine watching the sunset colors while relaxing in the spectacular infinity pool, as twilight descends over the ancient walls of the citadel below – bliss!
