    Itinerary

    Sunday Meet at Dijon TGV Station

    Rendezvous early afternoon outside the Dijon TGV station and transfer to the famous Abbey of Fontenay. After a visit, continue to our hotel. It is a castle! Join us for a wonderful Welcome Dinner tonight.

    Monday

    Take a short drive to Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, the location for the movie ‘Chocolat’, then hike past Charolais cattle farms to the remains of the Alesia settlement, where Julius Caesar subdued the Gauls during the Gallic Wars. After lunch at a traditional Burgundy auberge in medieval Semur-en-Auxois, we’ll walk through town on small rural lanes to a private manor house for a nice cup of tea.

    Tuesday

    Walk near the Burgundy canal and in the hills to Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, with its famous medieval castle. After lunch, we follow the fringe of the plateau with magnificent views of the valley, then drop down to reach the Château de Commarin. We are welcomed by the owner himself, descendant of an aristocratic family with 500 years of history. Transfer to Beaune and our hotel in the historic center.

    Wednesday

    Visit the market and the famous Hospices de Beaune, founded as a charitable alms house nearly 600 years ago. Then a private lunch at Château d’Entre-deux-Monts, a charming castle in the woods dating from the time of Louis XIII. Next, we’re off to the Côte de Nuits vineyards and the Château de Clos-Vougeot, the headquarters of the brotherhood of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, where we see the chateau, the Cistercian cellars and wine presses.

    Thursday

    Walk above the vineyards of Volnay, following a back-hills trail to reach Saint-Romain, an ancient stone village. After lunch, we hike with splendid views of Château de La Rochepot, then transfer to the Côte de Beaune for a wine tasting at a family-run domain. Our next stop is Tournus, one of the most important monastic centers of Burgundy.

    Friday

    We’ll start the day in Brancion with coffee and croissants at the foot of its medieval castle. Our walk takes us downhill on ancient paths to a string of quaint villages, each with its own Romanesque church. After lunch at an auberge in Blanot, we transfer to Tournus, with time to visit the abbey. Farewell Dinner is at a Michelin-starred restaurant near our hotel.
